Hebe speciosa - Showy Hebe
We were never exactly swooning over hebes — until Hebe speciosa showed up with bloom clusters big enough to fill your palm. This extra showy species brings continuous color from summer into fall, with chubby 3–4" magenta-violet flower clusters that are thrillingly bold, nectar-rich, and adored by all manner of pollinating friends.
The foliage is handsome, too: large, rounded, rich green leaves held on upright branching stems, giving Showy Hebe a lush, evergreen presence without that stiff, boxy look. Growing about 3' tall and 4' wide, it makes a beautiful addition to mixed borders, coastal gardens, pollinator plantings, cottage-style beds, and large containers where year-round structure and long-lasting flowers are both welcome.
Plant Hebe speciosa in full sun to part shade with compost-enriched, well-drained soil. Easy, unusual, and wonderfully floriferous, Showy Hebe is proof that sometimes the plant you thought was too ordinary just needed bigger flowers and better manners.
